How to Hack Windfarms: Exposing ICS Vulnerabilities Using Shodan

This VIND Talk explores the cybersecurity risks that threaten wind turbines, with a particular focus on industrial control systems (ICS) such as SCADA and remote control. Using Shodan, the search engine for internet-connected devices, it demonstrates how attackers can locate and potentially exploit these critical systems. By highlighting real-life examples of vulnerable wind energy infrastructures, best practices to manage and mitigate risks are discussed. As the security of renewable energy becomes increasingly important, this session will provide valuable insights for attendees interested in cybersecurity, energy systems and operational technologies.

Visibility of Wind Turbines Does Not Automatically Result in Significant Damage to National Interests

With increased demands from the Swedish National Heritage Board on cultural environment documentation in permit assessments for offshore wind power, visual impact on national interests has become a key issue. OX2 and Sweco have developed a new methodology that is based on in-depth visibility analyses and takes into account weather and visibility, as well as in-depth cultural environment analyses based on the core values of the cultural environment. This provides a more accurate assessment of the visual impact of wind power on the cultural environment. The session explores how the approach can provide more accurate assessments in permitting processes and shows the risks of using coarser analysis models in marine planning.

Listen to a VIND Talk

The VIND Talk stage is a new discussion-opening element at VIND2024 where conference participants are invited to listen to short presentations on particularly interesting cases with a bearing on the overall themes of the conference. The VIND Talk presentations are given by selected players on the Swedish market.

The program on the VIND Talk stage is scheduled during the breaks in the main program. The VIND Talk stage is located in the foyer of the Waterfront Congress Center and has a capacity for 70 seated audience members simultaneously and room for standing. It is first come, first served!
