According to the Swedish Energy Agency, a scenario with 90 TWh of wind power in a 100% renewable electricity system by 2040 has advantages over other scenarios with a smaller wind component. If an expansion rate of 4 TWh per year is maintained, wind power will overtake nuclear energy to become the second largest energy type as early as 2025. Hydropower will remain the largest component and central to energy transition, so it is of the utmost importance that we maintain its production and ability to smooth out intermittency.
